What to Expect From Spider-Man: Homecoming

So as we all know, 2017 is set to be the year of the Spider, as Spider-Man: Homecoming is slated to hit theaters this summer, and as the third installment of the web-slinger is longing to outdo his 2 predecessors, Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire, there are some things that we can definitely see put into play during his first standalone film to possibly make that dream a reality.

1. Building On Captain America: Civil War

So as we could plainly see during the events of Captain America: Civil War, the wall-crawler is back and better than ever.  As soon as he made his onscreen debut, Tom Holland's Spider-Man began his wisecracking and joking that made the original comic book Spider-Man so beloved by fans, thus bringing an element from the original conception to his incarnation of the Spider that had somehow managed to fall through the cracks in the last two incarnations.  One thing that we can expect for his solo film, is that this incarnation of Spider-Man is definitely going to build on what he did in his cameo, and bring even more joking and wisecracks that made his character famous.

2. Vulture

Vulture as he appears in Spider-Man: Homecoming
Vulture is a villain that had always escaped the grasps of the silver screen during the first 2 Spider-Man incarnations.  Sam Rami has gone on record to say that if he had made a Spider-Man 4, Vulture would have been the villain he would have brought to the screen, but seeing as how Spider-Man 4 never happened, we had to wait another 10 years before we could hope to see Vulture get the screentime he deserves.  With a new villain at the forefront, you can expect some creative decision making and writing that we have yet to see inside the Spider-Man franchise.

3. A Younger Peter Parker

Tom Holland as Spider-Man
Another thing that we have yet to see from any Spider-Man is their age.  Both of the cinematic incarnations of Spider-Man have been just graduating High School when they got their powers, so there wasn't much to explore in the Spider-Man/Student double life.  However, in casting a younger actor in Tom Holland and setting the timeframe of the acquisition of Peter Parker's powers in his middle high school years, we can expect a double life almost as suspenseful as Hannah Montana's was on the Disney Channel.

4. Faithful to the Comics

In one way or another, the previous two incarnations of the Web-slinger have gone against the lore of the comics, and while I get that the Cinematic Universe is it's own entity, its nice to see this incarnation staying more faithful to the comics.  Not only did we see the most accurate Spidey suit we have ever seen in Captain America: Civil War, but we are also seeing the technological savvy Peter Parker develop his own webbing and begin to grasp the importance of the phrase "with great power, comes great responsibility." Another aspect of the comics is the fact that Iron-Man will be making an appearance in Homecoming, and we will undoubtedly get to see the father-son-esque relationship begin to develop between Stark and Parker as we see in the comics.

5. The Anchoring of Spider-Man

The most important aspect of this movie is that it will cement Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Much like films like Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, this will set the stage for the Webslinger to appear in Infinity War, and possibly even fill an empty Avengers slot later down the road.

What do you guys think we can expect from Spider-Man Homecoming? Let me know in the comments!
