Superhero Spotlight #1: The Green Lantern (DC Comics)

Image
To start off this weekly Superhero Spotlight, I'd like to dive into my favorite DC hero, The Green Lantern.  Most of my superhero stuff on this blog have been about Marvel guys, strictly because I am a Marvel guy through a through, but there are a lot of DC heroes that need some love too, such as old Green man himself! Background The Green Lantern The Green Lantern has been portrayed by an astounding 7 characters; Alan Scott in the Golden Age, Hal Jordan in the Silver Age, Guy Gardner and John Stewart in the Bronze Age, Kyle Rayner in the Modern Age, and Simon Baz & Jessica Cruz in the New 52.  It would take far too long to explain each one's origin, so let me just explain every Green Lantern's similarity: The Green Power Ring. The Green Lantern Power Rings belong to the Green Lantern Corps, which is a group of Green Lanterns dedicated to defending the universe against evil.  Using their Green Lantern Power Rings which are powered by their willpower, they a...

Tobey Maguire The first iteration of Spidey was introduced in 2002 by Sam Raimi and his actor of choice, Tobey Maguire.  Although Raimi's casting of Peter Parker was on point, the acting in this nerd turned h...

So it's no news to anyone that the comic book anti-hero Deadpool's popularity has skyrocketed in the past couple of years seemingly out of nowhere, and with good reason.  He is definitely my all-time favorite comic book character due his unique nature, set of powers, and personality.  In this article, I'll be discussing the history, lore and background of Deadpool, as well as the hype behind him and what to probably expect from his upcoming film.  All of these topics will be headlined, so if you already know the majority of the background, you can just skip that part and go straight into my opinions on what to expect from the film. Sound good? History of Deadpool So the history behind Deadpool is somewhat jaded.  The most accepted truth is that Deadpool's real name is Wade Winston Wilson, but he is also called Wade T. Wilson, Jack, and has been accused of actually stealing the identity of Wade Wilson by his enemy, Wade Wilson in one comic book issue. Loki cla...
